Starving Artist

My photo
I'm a senior in highschool with an unhealthy love for illustration and comic books. My ispiration comes from surrealism, but lately my interests in psychology and art therapy have been a raging force in the subject matter of my work.

Breath #11 painted

I really don't know what to use for the water like substance, but the string turned out alright.

update for #7

Now for lines and color!

breath #11

I love everything about this photo, but what can I do to make it more suitable for the 2-d design portfolio? I have some pattern ideas and I'm considering painting this.

Breath #9

Rhythm/balance/movement/repetition. I wonder if i can use this :)

breath #8

I love the idea of balance through perfect symmetry. The photos in the back create an interesting contrast and invented texture. I have a ton of different versions of this piece with different patterns, pages, and some portraits.

breath #7

For this piece I want to focus on the pop art style by Shepard ( the famous guy who created the giant OBEY sticker) I have this idea of recreating this photo of mine as an illustration where the blue rockem robot Punch's the red one and the head goes beyond the frame.

Breath #5

I loved the tones and colors of the rose, so when I began my background I splattered the colors from a bright yellow at the center to a crimson red at the edges. instead of flatly drawing the outline of the rose I wanted rather, to imply the edges with the dark red and burnt sienna which really gave it a lovely contrast.

Breath #4

For this piece I want to focus on the figure ground relationship, due to the nature of its size, and proportion/scale. By using the smaller blocks as a reference point I'm going to photoshop building blocks through out the great wall so the building blocks become the great wall.

Breath #3

In a cross breed of David Hockney and coffee I have created a photo montage. Looking at this with all the layers glued together I feel a need for(yes more caffeine) more photos of the different times of day.Right now it feels like all the photos are the same shade in the center.

breath #2

With pastel and a little solvent I created illusionary space. Not sure if I'm a fan of the little orbs of color, but I'm happy with the color scheme and over all composition. I kind of drew from a previous piece and got the idea of buildings morphing into a circle.

Breath #1

Inspired by art nova I wanted this self portrait to have movement and a strong design. I have a strong feeling that the neck will be fixed in Photoshop since its become resilient to my markers. Looking at it now there are details I'll need to fix, but for now I like the gesture and shading.

Concentration #12

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). With this piece I drew the entire portrait to start and then, with very small blade, I cut the entire board into little squares. The back ground was a piece of cake in comparison, one sheet of water color paper soaked with water so that the water colors applied would look free form. I'm still working out where to add the hands in this piece. Essentially the hands will be trying to fix the squares which are of different sizes, and attempt to put them back in place.
Here's a repost of number 6 I've been busy with my SCAD portfolio and didn't have time to fix this piece. When we begin breath I think I'll start over and try using oil paint instead.

Concentration #11

Hallucinations are extremely common in many peoples lives. You may hear a phone ring or see a shadow move in the corner of your eye, but these hallucinations can be due to stress. On the hand sometimes people report vivid perceptions of voices, sights, sounds, and smells that only they can perceive. I used extremely watered down acrylic paint and let it free form on the matt board. After it dried I used some special pens to create the face and then combined multiple structures to transition the face into the hallucination.
